  • My client, a blue chip solution provider, has a new opportunity available for a Senior Project Manager to join the Project Team.
  • Reporting directly to the Project Team Manager, the Senior Project Manager will:
  • Responsible for planning and managing medium to large-sized projects that are technically or organisationally complex and carry a Medium to high degree of risk, from initiation into service, delivering projects to the required time, cost and quality tolerances.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in line with IT Services best practice methodology (Managing risk, governance quality gateways, issue resolution and reporting)
  • Able to concurrently manage multiple projects.
  • May manage sections of large programmes and will input into the project planning process as a member of a large programme team under the direction of a Programme Manager. Supervises the work of Project Coordinators and other project staff and may work with external consultants to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Defined management responsibilities (not line management) for several high performing teams of Project resource, through team leaders/managers, the work of multi-disciplinary workforces and/or external sub-contractors or consultants or 3rd parties. May also be responsible for delivering a small portfolio of projects (i.e. multiple large projects) to deliver against understood and agreed criteria and ensuring quality of deliverables
  • Responsible for resource, budget and planning or timelines. Has primary responsibility for meeting defined business goals as scoped by project objectives within defined financial targets.
  • To provide pre-sales support for new major project opportunities minimising the ITS Services risk by ensuring proposals include a statement of work and relevant caveats and assumptions.
  • Supports the Project & Programme Management Team operationally and with development activities aligned to the business strategy, providing active feedback / ownership / development of existing and new processes as identified by the senior management team or based on lessons learned within the department.
  • Key accountabilities for the Senior Project manager include

    • Oversee the delivery of customer projects ensuring the required specification, quality standards, on time and cost tolerance are met
    • Deliver and aim to improve levels of profitability against contracted solutions and associated P&L
    • To take full responsibility for the management of the wider project team assigned to the project and serve as primary contact including internal technical resource, 3rd party suppliers, account team members and client stakeholders
    • Ensure strict commercial change control to manage deviations
    • Initiate, plan and deliver all projects in line with IT Services best practice methodology (managing risk, governance, quality assurance, issue resolution, reporting)
    • Management of Third party suppliers in terms of selection, deliverables, timelines and budgets.
    • Plans, manages and delivers the larger and more complex possibly long-term projects that will significantly affect the organisation and which will deliver strategic benefits to client and/or stakeholders
    • Directs and manages all elements of project and should direct activities of aligned Project Co-ordinators.
    • Ability to project manage in a technical environment across the IT Services portfolio of products and services including but not limited to the below:
      • EUC
      • Networking
      • Unified Communications
      • Security
      • Private and Hosted Cloud/Data Centre Services
    • Ability to use and adapt recognised project management methods and processes, depending on the elements of the risk profile and governance needs.
    • Expected to coach / mentor and guide Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
    • Ability to identify the change impact on the organisation, identify stakeholders and manage relationships, risk and engagement to deliver the project’s outputs successfully.
    • Participate in bids and tender responses as part of the Bid team ensuring proposal contain a statement of work and the appropriate caveats and assumptions
    • Deliver and aim to improve levels of profitability against contracted solutions and associated P&L
    • Adhere to relevant escalation processes to escalate resource issues, delayed project phases, missed deadlines and other planning issues
    • Ensure commercial project milestones are agreed
    • Review the outcomes of the project to determine any corrective actions that could be taken to improve future programme/project delivery in terms of cost, quality and customer satisfaction
    • Provide input and support to Project Team Managers in support of strategic initiatives including proactively identify improvements to the way we do business, project delivery methodology and input to supporting business case.

    The Senior Project Manager will offer skills and experience to include:

    • Degree level or equivalent desirable
    • Project Management qualification essential, preferably Prince2 practitioner
    • ITIL Qualification desirable
    • Demonstrable and significant experience and capability in leading and delivery of complex projects requiring the creation of large project teams with multiple elements on a cross discipline and/or multi supplier basis over medium and long term timeframes, whilst managing the projects to time, cost and quality including robust project budget management.
    • Demonstrable and significant experience and capability in leading and delivery of complex projects for Enterprise Datacentre/Cloud and EUC(Microsoft)
    • Demonstrable record of innovation
    • Developed communication (verbal and written) and diplomacy skills with a strong ability to persuade and influence client and stakeholder relationships with a sound ability to negotiate internally and externally in client and stakeholder relationships.
    • Must have proven ability to apply relationship management skills in the medium terms and to be able to build and own client and stakeholder relationships at executive levels (e.g. Director and above for prime external customer) during and beyond the project duration.
    • Previous experience of project management in a technical environment across the IT Services portfolio of products and services
    • Experienced in working on bids and proposals, scoping new work and building budgets and quality statements of work.
    • Lead and manage a project team, leading by example and ensuring quality of delivery of the project team
    • Ability to have the robust/difficult conversations with customer, third party suppliers and stakeholders
